A concours d’elegance on the frozen lake in the glamorous St. Moritz is already pretty special. But if you then add the unique spectacle of competitors engaged on the ice track itself, then success is guaranteed. The 2023 edition of The ICE in St. Moritz did not stop there: eClassic simulators made their own particular contribution to the excitement, allowing enthusiasts to experience first-hand the feeling of driving on the ice just like the cars entered into the event.
The undisputed star of the event was the 1970 Lancia Stratos HF Zero, which won “The Best in Show” and “Concept Cars and One-offs”. But the greatest emotion of all was provided by the Maserati 420 M/ 58 “Eldorado” which Stirling Moss drove in the 500 Miglia di Monza in 1958. She proudly took home the class ranking in the “Open Wheels” category. For the “Barchettas on the lake” and “Le Mans 100” categories, dedicated to the centenary of the French marathon, the prize was awarded to the 1955 Ferrari 500 Mondial Series II and the 1958 Ferrari 250 Testarossa “LucyBelle”. Finally, the Bentley S1 Continental Drophead Coupe won the “Queens on Wheels” category.
But there were more than a few surprises in store: the VIP pavilion hosted an eClassic demonstration on how a car is scanned, in this case a scale model, to create a digital twin that can be stored in the My Garage section of the eClassic App and used on the simulators. Reality and virtual reality meet once again to demonstrate the many new opportunities to fuel the authentic passion for collector cars.
